First thing’s first. Our friend Billy Ray is directing the stage production of Glengarry Glenn Ross at the Playhouse Theatre in Birmingham (3rd Ave & 17th St. – Across from the AL Theatre). It’s running this weekend, Tuesday night and then next Thursday – Saturday (April 17-19) at 8pm each night. Please, spend 2 hours of your week and go see this play. We saw it last night and it’s really excellent and it has a very talented cast. For information on tickets and showtimes visit their myspace page http://www.myspace.com/theatredt. Please go support the local arts. You won’t be disappointed.
Now for the less important stuff:
Apparently I miss everything. We had some really bad storms come through the area about 4:30ish this afternoon. I was sitting in my living room with Jenn watching The Dog Whisperer (all hail Cesar) and suddenly it looked like friggin’ Hurricane Hugo on my back deck. I mean, trees thrashing back and forth, golf ball sized hail falling and wind so fierce that it was pulling the bottom of my sliding screen door off it’s hinges into the air. The power blinked off and on a couple of times and after about 5 minutes it was over.
Cut to about 8 hours later. I walked Jenn out to her car and my neighbors were outside. They inform me that as all of that was going on, they were in their house, which is directly next to mine, and got a phone call from their family warning them that there was a tornado in Hoover heading in our direction. They then stood in the living room and watched a large funnel cloud come right over our complex. Holy shit. I had no clue, but with the bizarreness of the weather at that moment, it makes perfect sense.
I’m actually kind of upset I missed it. When I was younger, probably around 12 or 13, I don’t know… I was at my friend Michelle’s house in Trussville and there was a horrible storm and we all stood on her porch and watched a funnel cloud bounce across her neighborhood. It’s absolutely amazing to me that something that massive….something that destructive….you can stand in its presence in one moment and not be harmed by it, and then the next moment it could just cause you to lose everything. That’s so incredibly fascinating to me.
So much more to say but it’s 1:30am and I’m beat.
